The
Top of the Hill Fine Arts Theater is a professional fine arts training program
for young people between the ages of 5 and 12.
The program allows participants to develop their creative talent and
to grow as young artists. |

Musical Playlet • Grades 1-3 Aim: This
course offers a fun and exciting atmosphere while introducing children
to the world of performing arts. Youngsters enhance
their creativity through song games and exercises used to develop
concentration,
creativity,
and self-confidence. Music is incorporated into the curriculum
by learning rhythms, telling stories using music, and an introduction
to instruments.
This seven week class culminates with an August 10 presentation
of
the Brothers Grimm’s Rumpelsiltskin. |

Musical Theater • Grades 4-7 (A) Aim: Youngsters
explore basic principles of acting technique including objectives/obstacles,
given circumstances, sensory memory, emotional
recall, improvisation, and dramatic training which are designed to
expand the imagination and to increase concentration and self-confidence.
This
seven week course culminates with an August 16 presentation of Gilbert & Sullivan’s
light opera Pirates of Penzance. |
Musical Theater • Grades 4-7 (B) Aim: Youngsters
explore basic principles of acting technique including objectives/obstacles,

recall, improvisation, and dramatic training which are designed to
expand
the imagination and to increase concentration and self-confidence.
This four week course culminates with a July 26 presentation of musical
monologues and/or scenes. |

The Hill Top Singers • Grades 1-3 Aim: Through a variety of exciting, up-beat, and fun-loving
songs, youngsters are introduced to vocal production, rhythm, and movement.
This four week
course culminates with a July 29 choral concert. |
The Hill Top Singers • Grades 4-7 Aim: This choral experience is carefully structured to place
singers into one of its two divisions. A terrific Broadway Medley of
songs will be
mastered and presented in a July 29 concert. |

About the Program Directors Dr. James Shepherd teaches choral and general music at EM Baker Elementary School, and is the Music Dept. Chair at the John L. Miller North High School. He is Organist and Choir master at the All Saints Church, and coordinates the “Music on the Hill Concert Series.” In addition, Dr. -Shepherd has been the musical director of the Drama program at the E.M. Baker School for the past eleven years. Mrs. Jennifer Snyder has been a teacher for twenty years. In addition to teaching fourth grade, she initiated the Drama Program at E.M. Baker School featuring the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. She understands the importance of all areas of theater production, and teaches improvisation, voice, movement, set design, and stage management. “I look forward to bringing my expertise in theater to children once again.” |
